The watch manufacturer Vulcain was founded in 1858 and is considered the inventor of the alarm complication for wristwatches. In 1947, this complication became world-famous under the name "Cricket", as Vulcain copied the principle from the insect. The barely audible - and also perceptible - buzzing sound brought the manufacturer enormous success. This innovation made Vulcain watches popular with American presidents, starting with Harry S. Truman, and earned the brand a reputation as the "presidential watch".
