About the brand
Founded in 1927 in Glashütte, Germany, a town world-famous for its watchmaking, the Tutima Glashütte brand was born under the leadership of Dr Ernst Kurtz. As director of two newly established local manufactories (UROFA and UFAG), he understood that the future belonged to the wristwatch rather than the pocket watch. Under his guidance, the company produced models that were quickly able to rival Swiss brands. Due to their outstanding reliability and durability, its finest timepieces were given the name “Tutima”, derived from the Latin word meaning “safe” or “secure”.
In 1945, the destruction of its factories forced the company to relocate to West Germany. Under the leadership of Dieter Delecate from the 1960s onwards, it maintained its production and became the official supplier to NATO pilots in 1984 with its Military Chronograph. Following German reunification, the company methodically prepared its return to its roots, a move realised in 2008 with the opening of a new manufactory in its hometown. Today, it continues its technical development by designing and assembling its own movements in-house.
