A "certified chronometer" (school friends of mine certified watches of all brands in Biel during the holidays) means that the mechanical movement of EVERY SINGLE WATCH checked MUST meet the highest precision requirements (and not that it is a chronometer - which of course is not mutually exclusive). My MIDO now shows me day and night what this means: an accuracy that is second to none and without a battery! I have been wearing it for a month and neither the glass nor the gold plating has the slightest scratch.
