Absolute high-tech watch in the highest quality (Translated automatically with Google™ View original text)
Great looking Pilot-style watch with character
The front of the watch includes a brushed silver dial with large, recessed, dark blue hour markers and a small date window between 4 and 5 o’clock. “Hamilton Automatic” and “Khaki Air Race” is applied in small dark blue text. The hour and minute hands are silver semi-skeleton roman swords hands with blue-filled areas. The hour hand is visible beneath the minute hand when it passes over the top, which is a nice feature. The second hand is red tipped with a white arrow. The blue fill on the hour markers, hour and minute hands, and the white tip on the second hand have a luminous coating which provides good visibility in the dark, although I’m not sure how long this lasts for and therefore how practical it is for viewing at night. The dial and hands work together really well to produce a timepiece with the feel of a pilot watch, but in a practical 38mm diameter and 10mm thick case size, which is unobtrusive and perfect for everyday use. For my wrist size (18cm) I find the watch to be an excellent size. I believe that the watch will begin to look a little small on wrists much larger than 18cm however (there is a 42mm version of this watch that would be better suited to people with larger wrists).
The silver case has a “brushed” finish applied all over, which matches the pilot watch aesthetic. The crown has large, easy to grip serrations and a polished “H” on the end face. The back of the case includes a movement viewing window with “Red Bull Air Race Official Timekeeper” applied in white. Initially I was not overly fond of this text as it partly obscures the movement, but after owning the watch for a few weeks I now think that it adds some extra character and personality. The rotor is engraved with “Hamilton”, but otherwise it is a standard ETA movement.
The black leather strap with white stitching is acceptable, but I don’t think that it is the perfect match for this watch. I replaced the strap with a vintage-look brown leather strap, which I believe suits the watch much better.
The automatic ETA movement has an 80 hour power reserve, which is very practical. This positive practical improvement relative to other watches I have with older ETA movements (40 hour power reserve) is more pronounced than I anticipated. I means that the watch can be left for several days without needing to re-wind and re-set the time, which is great. The only downside is that the second hand moves more slowly (and so appears less “smooth”) than on the older ETA movements, but this is a minor complaint and more than offset by the higher power reserve.
I saw the watch on the uhrenschmuck24.ch website. I rang to arrange to try it on, was told that the watch was in storage but could be prepared within 30 minutes. When I arrived 30 minutes later the watch was ready. After trying it and agreeing to buy, the staff set the correct time and date before putting it in its box, which was a nice touch.
Overall I am very pleased with the watch and the service which I received.
