After wearing a couple of sport watches for the last decade, I have decided to treat myself with something a bit more special. No altimeter and a compass function this time, no, but rather a timepiece that displays a certain sense of style. There is a unique feeling of satisfaction when handling something that was designed and made with absolute care, and the Tissot PRS 516 Automatic Small Second delivers exactly that.

The watch lets you know at first sight that you are dealing with something different. For example, the dial with its three seconds cutaways is nicely balanced and attractive, while simultaneously less busy and crowded than what you would see on a chronograph. A quick glance might remind you of a tachometer in a car, and the background dividing the cutouts is finished with an effect, resembling woven carbon fibre. Furthermore, the hour indices of the inner white ring actually float above the black dial below and add to the dimensionality of the watch. In addition, the steel case has a modern sporty feel with a sizeable side profile, a black ceramic bezel, and a discreet red under layer. This only becomes visible when observed from a certain angle, as does the pattern on the bezel itself, resembling a carbon brake rotor. The automotive inspired design is clear and perfectly matched by a thick and padded black leather strap with a butterfly lock.

This PRS 516 uses a modified ETA 2825-2 movement to allow for the triple seconds feature, and lists official dimensions as 42 x 50,8 x 13,9 milimetres, with a 6,5 x 3,2 milimetre crown. Personally, I was very glad to discover that the size is what I would consider moderate, since I do not have a large wrist and could never wear many large watches without them seeing out of place. However, the dimensions and the colour scheme, matched with the leather strap, really come together and make for a beautiful racing-inspired piece. In addition, the display of seconds on the dial is made discretely enough to not scream for attention, while still making sure that anyone who glances at it will have no other choice but to return for a second look.

Very high-quality leather was used in the manufacture of this bracelet, which you can tell as soon as you hold it in your fingers and touch it. The points where it is joined together are also of the highest quality, you can't see anything at all. This leather bracelet is made for every wrist size because you can click out the metal part in the middle of the chain and so it also fits smaller wrists. If you want to make yourself or someone else happy, buy this bracelet, you will definitely be satisfied with it and it's a small price too.
